The Rush concert at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul is fast approaching. The band is currently on a brief touring break lasting about 10 days. They will be in Moline, IL on May 20 and the St. Paul, MN tour date is on May 22nd. I can’t wait for the concert – I scored third row floor seats and I just bought a new camera. There is some sad news in the Rush camp, however. Original Rush drummer John Rutsey has died at age 55. Rutsey played on the band’s debut album, but quit due to his diabetes and musical differences in 1974. Although he never received mainstream attention, he was still a driving force behind the band in its very early days.
Many fans are speculating that the band, with 8 days to rehearse, might put an old song like “Working Man” from the 1974 album into their set list as a tribute to Rutsey. I think a lot of fans would like to hear something from that album. I will probably post again on this before I head out to the show.
