Now that it’s 2009, some tour announcements for the summer of this year are starting to surface. Billy Squier will embark on his first full-blown tour in eight years, and Queensryche has announced an extensive spring and early summer tour throughout the United States. Although Squier hasn’t yet made an official announcement of a tour and he doesn’t have an official web site yet, the confirmation of the tour rumor came through the Northern Lights Casino in Walker, Minnesota, which lists him as a performer on June 27 and 28. Squier had an impressive array of hit songs and albums during the early 1980s, with two multi-platinum albums and over a dozen charting singles including “Rock Me Tonite” which landed at #1 on the Mainstream Rock charts. His fans will no doubt be excited to see him out on the road again for the first time with a non-acoustic set since 2001, when he toured with Bad Company and Styx.
Queensryche’s 30-date tour scheduled for April and May will take them to various Houses of Blues, Casinos, and Theaters across the country, with a concentration on the east and west coasts. The tour is in promotion of their 12th studio album, American Soldier, which will be on shelves in March. They will once again be playing in Walker, Minnesota on May 3, 2009, having played the same venue in January of 2008 with an acoustic Don Dokken set for the opening act. I am planning on attending the Queensryche show, which will be my first time seeing the band. There are undoubtedly plenty of tour announcements on the way as the summer inches closer, and don’t forget to check back at Melodic Rock Concerts for more AC/DC pictures and another concert review next week! I will be at my second show on January 17.
