Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood Paired This Summer

Eric Clapton and Robert Cray on March 30, 2007

Guitar legend Eric Clapton has been touring almost non-stop for many years now, and this summer he will have a special guest joining him on the road in the form of the talented Steve Winwood. After collaborating at the 2007 Crossroads festival, the two English guitarists have decided to bring their talents together for a 14 city tour during the month of June. It’s not known whether or not the tour will continue later into the summer, but for now the confirmed dates are as follows:

June 10 – East Rutherford, NJ
June 12 – Philadelphia, PA
June 13 – Washington, DC
June 15 – Columbus, OH
June 17 – Chicago, IL
June 18 – St. Paul, MN
June 20 – Omaha, NE
June 21 – Denver, CO
June 23 – Dallas, TX
June 24 – Houston, TX
June 26 – Glendale, AZ
June 27 – Las Vegas, NV
June 29 – Oakland, CA
June 30 – Los Angeles, CA

The tour is largely limited to the major markets of the United States and leaves out a significant chunk of the country, but I’m certain that both Clapton and Winwood will continue touring through the rest of the year either together or alone. I will likely be in attendance at the St. Paul show, which would be my second Eric Clapton and my first Steve Winwood performance. Clapton’s live shows are not to be missed, his energy and sonic brilliance on stage are simply remarkable. The economy may be in tough shape, but you can’t put a price on the amazing musical experience that Eric Clapton brings to the stage, and Steve Winwood’s talent and catalog also adds to the value of the shows. This tour looks to be one of the summer’s best offerings without a doubt.

Aside from the Clapton/Winwood tour, Motley Crue fans will be pleased to find out that Crue Fest 2, set for the summer of 2009, has been confirmed. A page with a countdown has been set up at this link. The announcement will take place on March 15, and North Dakota might just be on the itinerary this time around. Stay tuned!

Lastly, in a recent interview David Coverdale, the voice of Whitesnake, confirmed that the band does plan to tour the United States in 2009. The tour will begin some time after June 14, at which point the band plays the UK’s Download Festival with Def Leppard. Whitesnake’s last tour of the US was in 2005.
