Aerosmith and ZZ Top are two bands with histories that date back nearly 40 years, immense popularity, and huge followings. It may seem to be an unlikely pairing, but both groups will be hitting the road together for a 40-date North American tour beginning as early as June. ZZ Top has toured the United States extensively over the last few years, while Aerosmith’s last domestic tour was a small handful of American dates in 2007. Health issues have plagued singer Steven Tyler and axeman Joe Perry, but the show must go on – there’s tickets to be sold, arenas to be filled, and hits to be played. With combined worldwide album sales topping 200 million, this tour will be huge without a doubt. Dates are still forthcoming, but Aerosmith fans with motorcyles would be pleased to find out that the band will be playing at the Sturgis Motorcyle Rally in Sturgis, SD on August 5. We will be on site covering this event, which is sure to be one of the year’s highlights.
In addition to the live shows, both bands also have new albums in the works: ZZ Top’s next project is due later in 2009, while Aerosmith’s release may not take place until 2010. According to Joe Perry, who is also working on a new solo album, “chances are you’re gonna be hearing [my solo album] before you hear an Aerosmith record…’cause I expect the Aerosmith tour, God willing, to continue through the fall.”
This should be interesting. I didn’t think of ZZ Top as a fit with Aerosmith
