Thin Lizzy Tour Gets the Axe

Those who were hoping to rock out with Thin Lizzy this summer are in for a much longer wait than expected. Prospects for the tour became quite uncertain when drummer Tommy Aldridge was injured in a car accident, and after guitarist John Sykes announced his departure from the band yesterday, the obvious was made official: the band’s 2009 tour has been canceled. Appearances were scheduled two festivals: the Moondance Jam and Rocklahoma, and other dates around America were also booked including stops in California, Nevada, Montana, and Illinois. The first cancelations came last week on the news of Aldridge’s collar bone injury when the band called off their three scheduled opening sets for AC/DC in the UK.

Lizzy’s Scott Gorham speaks out: “It’s been a very tough time of late for myself and the band, firstly with drummer Tommy Aldridge’s injury and now the subsequent decision for John and the rest of the group to go their separate ways. I can only apologize to everyone who has supported us over the years, but we will be back up to full speed soon!”

Replacements will likely be named shortly to fill in the vacated slots at the Moondance Jam and Rocklahoma, which both take place in a matter of weeks. You’ll find all the latest here.
