In an age of tiny and still-shrinking mp3 players, it’s hard to believe that the seemingly obsolete vinyl record format is set for a revival. But that’s exactly what’s happening as a long list of artists including Motley Crue, AC/DC, Whitesnake, and Ace Frehley have printed thousands of their new albums in the vinyl format.
And today it has been announced that Judas Priest is following suit in an even bigger fashion. A company called “Back on Black” will be releasing 12 classic Priest albums on 180gsm heavyweight vinyl starting in February. All copies will be packaged in deluxe gatefold sleeves, with the first 1000 copies bearing limited edition colored vinyl. You can learn more at Judas Priest’s official website.
Guitarist Slash is also joining in on the vinyl phenomenon. His first ever solo album will be released in March or April – in all formats including vinyl. Recorded entirely analog, Slash remarked on Twitter: “Driving around listening to the analog mixes of my solo record, I gotta say it sounds awesome.” Special guests joining Slash on the record are numerous and include the likes of Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Meat Loaf, and Iggy Pop. A full tour is set to coincide with the release date.
