Steven Tyler Enters Rehab, Looks to Future with Aerosmith

img_9809-resizedIt might just be the Christmas present that Aerosmith fans were hoping for the most. Singer Steven Tyler has entered rehab for an addiction to painkillers, according to PEOPLE. Not only that, but Tyler also more than hints in a statement that his future with the band he founded over 35 years ago is far from over.

“With the help of my family and team of medical professionals, I am taking responsibility for the management of my pain and am eager to be back on the stage and in the recording studio with my bandmates Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford.”

PEOPLE reveals that Tyler’s pain problems are nothing new; he has reportedly suffered with the effects of performance injuries for 10 years. The situation came to a head during Aerosmith’s summer tour, when a particularly nasty and well-documented stage fall at the Buffalo Chip Amphitheater during the Sturgis Bike Rally left Tyler unable to forge ahead with the remaining shows. Headlines were made when it appeared that Aerosmith was looking for a replacement lead singer. A list of candidates for the position was even drawn up, including Lenny Kravitz and Buckcherry‘s Josh Todd, but both made it clear that only Tyler could ever front the group. His desire to take two years off to work on “brand Tyler” is what sparked the problem, but now it appears that a change of heart has taken place.

I love Aerosmith; I love performing as the lead singer in Aerosmith,” says Tyler. “I am grateful for all of the support and love I am receiving and am committed to getting things taken care of.”
