Coming soon is an interview with Kip Winger, the lead singer of his namesake band – Winger. But before that, we want to give you the opportunity to submit questions for Kip. To do so, simply leave a comment on this article and be sure to include your first name and home town if you would like to be mentioned during the interview. The deadline for questions is Noon eastern time on this Wednesday, January 13.
In addition, a weekly music show called Rock Concerts Weekly is in the works. For our debut (and for future shows), we want you to call and leave us a message with questions, comments, or stories from your favorite rock shows. Maybe you’re wondering what happened to one of your favorite bands? Or perhaps you have something to say about the concert scene. Whatever it is, we want to hear from you, and your message just might make it onto the show.
To leave a recording, just dial 415-881-ROCK. And watch for the premiere of Rock Concerts Weekly in the coming weeks.

Hey Kip. Just wanted to say right quick that I enjoyed your solo acoustic show in Chillicothe, Ohio. Thanks too for fielding my request for “Junkyard Dog,” even if it was just you belting the chorus! Love that song.
I was wondering what it is that “drives” you. What inspires you to write and make the music that you do?
Look forward to hopefully seeing you again, whether it be solo or the whole band. Keep on rockin’!!

[...] week the site reports that they will be doing an interview with Kip Winger of Winger. That’s right ladies, that Winger . If you have questions for Kip, email the [...]
Hey Kip,
As a huge Winger fan, I have studied your tunes thoroughly. I really appreciate the musicianship that is put into your albums. I love the fact that you guys mix progressive and catchy rock/metal styles into your music. But on your last album, you guys cut out the progressive elements. I noticed that the majority of the album is played more like a Judas Priest formula (not that it sounds like Judas Priest by any means). Was this a definitive choice to make a more “rockin” album or did it just happen that way? Either way, I do love Karma and I hope you keep doing your thing!
Hi Kip! Just wanted to say one of my all time favourite gigs was seeing you at the Xposure Rock Cafe Birmingham England around the time of This Conversation Seems Like A Dream. Wanted to ask apart from the usual cost issues how come you have never toured to my knowledge with a full band for your solo albums?
p.s. If u still enjoy the acoustic gigs keep doing them because i will keep coming to them!!
Kip -
Been a huge fan for over 20 years of both your solo music and of course the band.
When you sit down to compose a song, which usually comes first, the music or the lyrics? How long does it typically take you to write a song?
Thanks for all the kick ass music and hope you bring the Karma tour to Denver. Peace.
Hi Kip, with your Classical piece Ghosts having such success and seemingly very well received by your fans (and peers), do you plan on releasing a CF Kip Winger Classical CD at some point in the future?
Deeandra

Hi Kip. Karma has been playing in my car and at work every day since I bought it. One of the best albums out there from start to finish.
It seems to me that your biggest focus lately has been your classical writing. Is that accurate, and with the imminent success of “Ghosts” do you see that taking more of your time? Also, if anyone’s going to be taping the SF premiere (especially video), please let me know where I can get a copy. Thanks!
Jason, Bloomington, IL
Karma contains the track, “After all this time” written with long time winger band member John Roth & Reb Beach. Can you tell us the origins and storry this blues tune
Will we have the chance to buy “Ghosts” as performed by TSO on CD or preferably, DVD? How about the upcoming ballet performance…any chance of us being able to acquire this on DVD down the road?
Heather
Illinois
Hi Kip, I am a huge Winger fan. Winger is really the only band I ever listen to. I was wondering if you had any plans on releasing a DVD of your music videos? I think it would be awesome if you did. I hope to see you guys in Detroit! By the way Karma rocks! I love it! Thank You, Stacey South Lyon, MI
Hey Kip,
Big fan here. Do you have any plans to do more songs a la “Blind Revolution Mad”? I love the many progressions and heavy riffs. I think it is one of your finest songs of all time. Thanks.

I have a lot of questions. I hope you can answer one or two. :0)
One of my favorite songs on your CD Karma is Witness.
What was the spark that fueled that song? Melody? Lyrics? Idea/feeling?
Your music moves your fans. What “moves” you and gives you “goosebumps”?
What turns you on and what turns you off?
What is your greatest acheivment, professionally and personally?
Where do you see yourself in 10 years…professionally and personally?
Lastly…
What is the air speed velocity of the unladen swallow? LOL.
Just kidding on the last one…(which was a Monty Phython Holy Grail reference for anyone that didn’t get that)LOL

Hey Kip….love your music-all of your music-solo, Winger, and now with Blackwood Creek! Are you planning on doing any shows with Blackwood Creek in the near future?
Hope to see you soon in any or all of the above incarnations!
jane
I understand that you lived in New Mexico for about a decade beginning in the early 90s. What were the best and worst things about living there and what where the last songs you remember writing there?
i would like to say congrats in all your sucess i just want to ask you if you feel now after karma that all what you guys when in that 80’s meaning when winger where falling down its being more than reward it that pain became joy…its that have you feel or you are still thinking of it as it shouldn’t being like that?maybe regrating pass expirience? or more like a step that leave you where you guys are now.becaming a classic melody rock band! claudia reinoso miami florida!
Hi Kip !
I would like to know how were you crossed of classical music to hard rock.
And, why Winger does albums so different ? I mean that ‘Winger’ is extremly different of IV…
Thanks, hoping that my english is not too bad…
Justine, a huge Winger fan.

Hi Kip, first of all let me say that “Karma” is one of the best albums of the decade and it was great to see you guys play live in Poland. I still catch myself thinking about the show!
I have recently read an interview, in which you said that in the near future you plan to devote most of your time to classical music. Therefore my question is: Can we count on another Winger record and tour in the next couple of years? Thanks!
hi kip, do you think that maybe at sometime you and reb would do an accoustic tour of the uk together ? after putting you on twice (solo) @ the yardbirds i’d be up for it if you were…all the best for the winger tour see you @ nottingham cheers grey (riffs)
Hey Kip !!
I ever wonder what “she’s a magic mountain” means in ’seventeen’…
If you could answer, it would be awesome !
Thank you !!
Marie (France)
Hi Kip:
First I would like to thank you for your music. I love the music you compose with Winger as a group as well as your solo music and Blackwood Creek. I hope you realize the impression your music leaves on peoples souls.
Two questions:
Do you plan to tour the states whether with Winger or Solo in 2010?
I know you probably have little spare time but when you do, what do you enjoy in your downtime?
Hey Kip, the new album Karma rocks. I would love to hear 5-6 songs off this album on the upcoming U.S. tour – what are the chances? Also, will Winger continue to make new studio albums in the future? Thanks.
Hello Kip,
I am a young and fairly recent fan. My friend and I went to your Grand Rapids MI concert about two years ago and it was all I hoped for and more! She always jabs at me because Rod threw me his drumstick-I dropped it and was not able to get it back!
Anyway, my questions:
What were your first steps to composing “Ghosts” and your steps in orchestral performance?
Will there be a classical, solo, or Winger tour coming to the Midwest [such as Grand Rapids or Chicago]?
Thank you – and keep on rocking!
Ashleigh W from Grand Rapids MI
Hi Kip-
First congrats on your recent successes classically and w/ the awesome Karma and BW Creek cds.
You often speak of “hearing” music in your head before you write it. Do you hear it fully formed and arranged with instruments playing different parts?
How old were you when you first realized you had this gift and how old were you when you actually wrote your first song? Do your brothers or parents have this ability as well?
Thank you!
Deborah

Kip, you have received many compliments (and deservedly so) on your classical piece, “Ghosts”. Given that you’ve said in the past that classical music is your passion, and because you have a gift for this musical genre, do you see a point in the future when you will switch your musical direction from rock and solely focus on classical music?
In addition, do you see yourself writing classical pieces geared strictly toward the classical music afficianado or with more of an eye towards dance performances?
Looking forward to seeing you and the boys here in the Midwest….
Bobbie, Beautiful Apple Valley, MN
P.S. Congrats on the success of Karma, Blackwood Creek and From the Moon to the Sun!
Kip,
I reiterate the following questions:
1-Can you still pirouette, pas de chat, temps de poisson, and pas
de deux ???
2-With consideration to that melody that awakens you at 5:00am
every morning….
could it be a woodwind passage including 1st solo B-flat
clarinet, E-flat clarinet,1st solo flute, piccolo, oboe, bassoon,
and French horn?
I’d truly like to know?
Joyce (Denver and N.Y.)
A big thank you for all of the questions! The interview is now available on our new podcast, Rock Concerts Weekly, by clicking here.
