Although nearly 40 years have elapsed since the passing of Jimi Hendrix, the legacy is far from over. Posthumous studio, live, and compilation albums have been released sporadically since 1970, and this March will see the release of another such project. Valleys of Neptune is a 12-track collection of previously unheard rarities from the last-ever studio recording sessions of the Jimi Hendrix Project.
Recorded mostly in 1969, the material will include a cover of Cream‘s “Sunshine Of Your Love” and re-recordings of Stone Free, Fire, and Red House. Other titles include Lullaby for the Summer, Crying Blue Rain, Ships Passing Through the Night, and Mr Bad Love.
Valleys of Neptune is part of a larger effort to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Hendrix’s untimely death. The 2010 Jimi Hendrix Catalog Project will also see deluxe re-issues for classic albumsĀ Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, Electric Ladyland, and First Rays of the New Rising Sun. Valleys of Neptune will be released on March 9.
