Music listeners young and old know that Journey has been making a huge comeback as of late. There was the usage of “Don’t Stop Believin’” in the Sopranos finale, and now shows like Glee have been enhancing the song’s popularity even further. The band returned to the stage in 2008 and debuted to the world a brand new singer in Arnel Pineda, and gave some of its best-ever performances on the Revelation World Tour that continued into 2009. Founding guitarist Neal Schon gave fans warning of a deserved break in 2010, but the vacation is over as a brand new album begins to blossom.
As you can imagine, Schon wouldn’t be one to complain about the pop culture comeback of his band’s signature classic. “If people think Don’t Stop Believin’ is a Glee song and not one of ours, I don’t mind. Those are brand new fans – I’m happy they like the song, period,” the musician told Classic Rock Magazine.
A new tour is in the works for next year, along with the release of the follow-up to 2008′s platinum Revelation. The songs currently being hammered out in the studio are said to be some of Journey’s most rocking material to date, according to producer Kevin Shirley. “We’re going to be here [in the studio] for a little bit over a month,” he continues. “Overdubs and vocals are going really well. Kevin has to run off to another project, so we will come back and sing some more in November. The material is extremely strong.” The unnamed project will be released sometime in the spring of 2011.
Meanwhile, the band’s Greatest Hits album has reached its 100th week on the Billboard 200 charts, and former President Bill Clinton has planned on attending one of singer Arnel Pineda’s solo concerts. Reportedly a huge Journey fan, Clinton will take in Pineda’s July 25 concert at the Boardwalk Hall of Atlantic City. The Phillipine Star has the rest of this story.
