Entering the fifth decade of a career might have the tendency to bring about a slower pace. But that’s not the case for 61-year-old Ozzy Osbourne. He’s completed work on a brand new album, and is bracing for his most lengthy world tour yet later this fall. Scream will be Ozzy’s 10th solo album, and the follow up to 2007′s Black Rain. Originally set to be given the title Soul Sucka, the project was abruptly renamed following a negative fan response.
“When we put that on the Internet none of my fan base liked the title. They were like, ‘I can’t imagine me walking around the fucking house with the words ‘Soul Sucka’ on my T-shirt.’ So I was like, ‘Fuck it. I’ve got to come up with something else!’” said Osbourne.
Regarding the musical direction of the new CD, Ozzy told The Pulse of Radio, “It’s very heavy. It’s a cross between — it’s kind of like a Sabbath/Ozzy album, you know. It’s kind of, it wasn’t meant to, I didn’t plan on doing it but that’s the way it unfolded. A lot of it’s very, very heavy. I just hope people like it. I love it.”
June 22 will see the release of Scream, as well as brand new single video. A glimpse into the production of the music video for “Let Me Hear You Scream” is now available online. Fake blood, needles, and elaborate camera work seem to be heavily involved in its filming, which was done at the direction of Jonas Akerlund, known for leading production of Lady Gaga‘s “Telephone” video.
“Let Me Hear You Scream” was debuted to the world during an episode of CSI:New York last month, and has been thriving on the Billboard Rock charts for six weeks.
Ozzy has been having some fun amidst all the work, too. It was just reported that the rocker gave a huge scare to visitors at the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in New York when he posed as a figure of himself. “I have never been so scared in all my life,” the Daily Star quoted one shocked visitor as saying. Osbourne apparently sat motionless on a couch when visitors posed for photos, only to suddenly jump into life.
Later this year, Osbourne will bring back Ozzfest with the help of Motley Crue and Rob Halford. Watch for a review of Scream coming soon to Melodic Rock Concerts.
