It’s a Big Year for Blondie

Sure, the revolutionary rock outfit fronted by Debbie Harry has been crisscrossing the globe and making headlines since 1975, but this year a number of significant events are on the band’s itinerary.

A new album is one of those events. It will be the first one out in the seven years that have passed since The Curse of Blondie – a fine album that suffered from lackluster promotion in the United States. Panic of Girls is the name of the new project, writes co-founder and guitarist Christ Stein.

“We are getting closer to the next record, all the mixes are done. We have a couple of very cool guest artists, we are pushing for a 15-16 track record. There are three, maybe four cover songs,” he reveals at the band’s official blog.

The album’s cover art as seen above was designed by Dutch artist Chris Berens, well known for his abilities in surrealism and visionary art. It’s release was originally planned for June of this year, but the lack of new information would suggest a delay in this date.

Debbie Harry’s 65th birthday is another one of those major events taking place in 2010 – but that won’t stop another major highlight – a December tour in Australia and New Zealand with The Pretenders. There will be 12 shows on this tour, stretching from Auckland to Perth. “I feel pretty certain people are really going to love [the new material]. It’s a good set. A high energy show,” says Harry.

Before things get started down under, Blondie will tour the UK throughout June before joining the summer concert season in America.
