The Doobie Brothers are one of those enduring American (and worldwide) favorites. Unofficially celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, there doesn’t seem to be any sign of slowing down for a group that produced, and still continues to play one of the most diverse and celebrated catalogs of rock music.
The Doobies hit the road beginning this Tuesday for a month of co-headlining American shows with Chicago. The tour includes stops from coast to coast, with cities like Phoenix, Boston, Dallas, Atlanta, and Chicago as main targets. After that, the Brothers are back on the road with solo shows that will carry into October.
Rigorous touring is nothing new to the Doobie Brothers, who have seemingly always had a live presence, so what else is going on with the group?
In April, fans were alerted to new progress on an upcoming studio album from the Doobies. “The production of the long awaited new Doobie Brothers studio album is finally nearing completion. The CD will be accompanied by a DVD representing the band’s 40 year history from 1970 to present,” revealed a news item on the band’s official website. Indeed it’s been quite a while since such an effort was completed – you’d have to look back a decade to Sibling Rivalry, a championed studio release in 2000.
True Doobies fans wouldn’t be caught without their “Doobie Red” Wine. You heard correctly. Now available for purchase is a special wine collection that commemorates almost four decades of music from the group, and was produced in memory of the late drummer Keith Knudsen. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Veteran and other charity efforts – more information on the collectible wine sets is available here.

The Doobies are an amazing group that I have been a fan of for about 40 years. Just saw them Saturday night at Jones Beach and once again, they were amazing. They still rock hard and have a great time on stage together and their tunes sound just as great today as they did in the 70′s. I’ve seen the doobs many times (too many times to count) and have never been dissapointed, in fact they always blow me away. Can’t wait for the new cd, it’s been too long of a wait, 10 years in between albmus. Keep rockin guys and will catch you on tour again this fall!!!! Also, doobies should be in rock and roll hall of fame!!!!
