Ozzy Osbourne mania seems to be taking hold once again. The proclaimed ‘Prince of Darkness’ is releasing Scream, a brand new album packed with heavy metal anthems, worldwide on June 22. And his media tour in support of the album has been nothing short of unusual, even by Ozzy standards.
The singer has frightened his fans by posing a wax figure of himself, set a new Guinness World Record, and last night appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for both a performance and an interview. How’s that for publicity?
On Friday, it was the ‘Scream’ heard throughout Los Angeles when Osbourne led a Dodger Stadium crowd of over 52,000 in setting a new Guinness World Records achievement for the longest scream by a crowd.
In addition to being a publicity stunt for the aptly titled album, the Dodgers’ ThinkCure! cancer charity was also a benefactor in the staging of a world record attempt on the longest and loudest scream. Guinness World Records officials attended the match to record the strength of the scream, and Guinness boss Stuart Claxton has confirmed Ozzy and the fans are in the record books.
A spokesman for the rock legend says, “Ozzy has received a certificate that reads: “The Guinness World Record led by Ozzy Osbourne for the longest scream by a crowd was broken at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA on June 11, 2010.”
Looking to get your hands on Scream? Pre-orders have begun at Ozzy’s official website, and on iTunes. In addition, the entire album is now available for streaming at MySpace.
Signed copies from Osbourne himself are a bit harder to come by, but certainly not impossible. On June 20, two record release events will be held in Los Angeles Sunset Strip. During the afternoon, the rock icon will be present at an in-store signing at Amoeba Music on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, California. Later that night, some lucky fans will join Ozzy for a private record-release playback and rare club performance down Sunset Blvd. at the House of Blues.
Ozzy will sign copies of his the new CD at Amoeba from 5 to 8 p.m., and hand out free tickets to the evening House of Blues performance to the first 600 fans in line.
